Timo Sarpaneva

Timo Sarpaneva (1926-2006) played a significant role on the international stage of Finnish design as a designer, sculptor, and educator. His talent manifested itself through the art of glass and utilitarian design, as well as various mediums such as textiles, wood, porcelain, and metal. Timo Sarpaneva's outstanding contribution to industrial design greatly enhanced Finland's global reputation. His works, exhibited internationally, earned Sarpaneva numerous accolades in his illustrious career, including the prestigious Lunning Prize and two awards at the Milan Triennale. In 1976, the Finnish government conferred upon him the honorary title of professor.

 

Throughout his extensive collaboration with Iittala, Timo Sarpaneva was tasked with defining the fundamental characteristics of the company's style. He created the distinctive "i" logo, which has become the iconic symbol of the brand. Additionally, the Sarpaneva cast-iron pot from Iittala, designed by him, remains a timeless classic, acknowledged as a true icon of international design.
