Originally designed for the American market in the late 1950s, the GJ 118 Series was manufactured by France & Son — a company owned by Danish design innovator Poul Cadovius. The furniture was delivered flat-packed as knockdown furniture, making shipping easy and cost-efficient. This smart concept was key to France & Son’s phenomenal success in the United States.
Today, the furniture is delivered fully assembled. The Grete Jalk GJ 118 series is available in oil-treated European oak or American walnut. Cushions are upholstered with exclusive textiles from Kvadrat.
The entire GJ collection is proudly Made in Denmark.
The series includes 1-, 2-, and 2½-seater versions.

Grete Jalk
Denmark (1920-2006)
After studying philosophy at Copenhagen University and training as a cabinetmaker in the early 1940s, Jalk studied furniture design at the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts, and Industrial Design and the Royal Danish Academy of Arts. Best known for her furniture design, including laminated plywood furniture for manufacturer Poul Jeppesen, and tubular steel furniture for manufacturer Fritz Hensen, such as the easy chair of 1964. She also worked in other design media, including textiles, metalware, and wallpaper. One of the major exponents of Danish Modern in the 1950s and 1960s she also wrote about furniture design, including Dansk Møbelkunst (Danish Furniture Art).
