Footrest for the Siesta Classic Chair by Ingmar Relling – 60th Anniversary Edition

First produced in 1965 by the Norwegian manufacturer Westnofa, the Siesta chair has become a true icon of Scandinavian design. It is now once again manufactured in Norway by the furniture maker LK Hjelle.

The chair features a frame made of laminated beech or oak and a stretched canvas covered with a leather cushion.

In 2025, LK Hjelle will release a version in smoked oak with finely grained leather, available in black, cognac, or dark brown.

About the different production periods of the Siesta chair:

The Siesta was first produced by Westnofa from 1965 until 2000.

Production was then taken over by Rybo from 2000 to 2014.

LK Hjelle acquired the production rights from Rybo in 2014 and has been manufacturing the Siesta ever since.

Ingmar Relling

Ingmar Relling (1920-2002) was an impassioned designer who created a series of functional furniture designs during his long career. He started his career at Rastad & Relling design studio in 1947 before establishing his own studio in Sykkylven in 1950.

Today, he is considered as one of the greatest contributors to the golden era of Scandinavian Design. Simplicity, minimalism, elegance and uncompromising quality are key concepts in all of Relling’s designs.

In 1965, Ingmar Relling designed his greatest creation: the Siesta chair. It earned him first prize at the Industry Council for Furniture and Furnishing Industry Chair competition the same year. Even the White House was furnished with Ingmar Relling’s Siesta. Today, the Siesta chair stands out as an internationally recognised classic and a Norwegian icon.
