Gustav Axel Berg

Sweden (1891 - 1971)

Gustav Axel Berg was in many ways a precursor to Bruno Mathsson in terms of the development of harmonious sitting, with the body rest and relaxation that beacon. He designed several classic bent wood furniture in the 1930 and 40's. The chair "Status" has again been put into production by Bröderna Andersson. G A Berg exhibited for the Swedish Pavilion at the 1939 New York World Fair. He had his own Interior Decorating store at Kungsgatan 35 in Stockholm from 1933 to 1944. Some claim that the today commercially better known Bruno Mathsson took great "inspiration" from his competitor GA Berg.
