Louis Christiaan Kalff

Netherlands (1897- 1976)

Dutch designer, a major industrial designer of the 20th century.

Trained in many artistic disciplines such as sculpture, ceramics and architecture, he began his career in the early 1920s at Philips,  advertising department. It was him who designed the logo of the company.

In 1929 he created Philips's lighting design department which increased the turnover of the company. He became the artistic director of Philips and never left.

During the 1930s, he was overseeing the World Exhibition lighting department Barcelona, Antwerp and Paris.
