Nordiska Kompaniet

Nordiska Kompaniet is not only the name of a famous department store in Stockholm and Gothenburg, Sweden, it is also the name of a well known design company which produced many popular design objects during the 20th century. Furniture, textiles and decorative arts were designed by designers connected to NK and produced in NK's factories, including  Gunnar Asplund, Carl-Axel Acking, Stig Lindberg and Astrid Sampe, the latter  was also head of NK's textile department. NK was also a licensed manufacturer of Herman Miller's furniture, for example some of the Eames' chairs where produced there. The factories were closed in 1973.
