C.M. Madsen

The leading proponents of the Danish Modern design movement, among others Arne Jacobsen, Hans Wegner, Finn Juhl and B. Mogensen who united with manufacturers as C.M Madsen, Andreas Tuck or Ry Mobler, created a style that reverberated around the globe. The result was elegant, bold, sensual and functional furniture design, with a level of craftsmanship unsurpassed in the history of 20th century design. Originally the Danish design movement of the mid 20th century had its roots in a 400 year-old Cabinetmakers Guild tradition. Furniture craftsmen, concerned by the trend towards mass production, established partnerships with the leading designers of the time and set about creating furniture that utilized their highly refined skills, at the same time responding to the requirements of modern living. This partnership came to fruition in the late 1940's at a time when the world, ravaged by WWII., was longing for a new, fresh beginning.
