Foss is an upholstery textile with a vibrant yet simple expression. Created by Norwegian textile designer Tone Barnung and coloured by Danish designer Louise Sigvardt, it unites natural and man-made materials. Three to four different melange or unicoloured yarns – in different thicknesses – are combined in each colourway. The shiny viscose and thick linen yarns give the surface of Foss a subtle shimmer. Foss also has a tactile feel, in addition to its sophisticated lustre. Though it is primarily made of wool, it offers the tactile dry touch usually associated with pure linen textiles. Louise Sigvardt found inspiration in the Scandinavian landscape when developing colours for Foss. Consequently, the palette combines a variety of refined natural nuances, such as muted blues reminiscent of the rough see and misty views over deep forest greens.
Tone Barnung, a Bachelor of Industrial Design, has created a variety of curtain and upholstery textiles with leading weavers, architects and furniture manufacturers. Several have been used in prestigious projects, such as Norway’s parliament and National Gallery.
Louise Sigvardt is a graduate from Kolding Design School in Jutland, Denmark, with a Master of Fashion Design. A winner of the Designer’s Nest award at Copenhagen Fashion Week, her portfolio includes shoes, accessories and leather products. She is currently working as a designer at Everlane, New York.
