Elsa Engeström

Sweden 1885-1976 

Elsa Augusta Emilia Engeström, potter, decorator and artist, boen in Sollefteå in 1885. She moves to Stockholm in 1912 after marrying Algot Engeström and she begins to work for Gustavsberg with Josef Ekberg. She also worked with Helmer Åslund and Beata Mårtensson. Elsa worked as a designer and a decorator.  

She participated in Stockholm Exhibition of 1897 and Malmö Exhibition in 1914. She signed her objects « EE », « E.Engeström » or « E.Em » and her work is characterised by blue flower motifs on a sky-blue background. She used the same technic as Ekberg, named sgraffito.
