Éva Mag

Romanian artist Éva Mag's work tells stories about the body; both human and sculptural. Drawing inspiration from the history of sculpture and with a fervent interest in contrasts; Mag creates works that range from impossible amorphous forms to strict formal modernist works that possess balanced proportions and geometry. Through such contrasts in shape, color, size, and density, Mag interrogates the ways that varying forms (particularly human forms) are valued differently in society. A major portion of her practice is devoted to archiving the work process. In photographs, she presents pure fabrics of hollow bodies, a testimony from the time before the fabrics are filled with clay and wax.

Mag received her artistic education at the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm, where she graduated in 2015. Her work has been exhibited in solo shows across Sweden at museums and galleries including Borås Konstmuseum; Jönköpings läns museum; Waldemarsudde Stockholm; Art Lab Gnesta, Sweden; Haninge Konsthall; and Galleri Mejan Stockholm. She has also participated in a number of group shows at spaces Gallery Steinsland Berliner; Wanås Konst; hangmenProjects; Körsbärsgården Konsthall; Sven-Harrys konstmuseum; Västerås Konstmuseum; and Galleri Riis. She lives and works in Stockholm, Sweden.
