Uno Ahrén

Sweden (1897 – 1977)

Uno Åhrén, architect and urban planner, was one of the pioneers in the development of the style known as Swedish Modern. He took impression of Le Corbusier's architecture and Germany's socially-oriented housing in the 1920's. Walter Gropius was also a great source of inspiration to Åhrén. He participated in the Stockholm Exhibition in 1930, in the exhibition department for people with limited financial resources. Uno Åhrén was also an attributing writer in the socially engaged functionalism publication "Accept", published years after the Stockholm Expo. Uno Åhrén had a strong commitment to urban planning and participated frequently in the housing debate.
