denmark - 1941
Mid-Century modern scandinavian armchair model Århus Cityhall by Hans Wegner designed around 1940. Solid oak frame, seat reupholstered as original with natural leather straps.
The armchair was part of the furniture of the Århus Cityhall in northern Denmark, designed by Arne Jacobsen and Erik Møller and built from 1937 to 1941. Arne Jacobsen asked the young Hans Wegner to design the furniture, what he did, signing there his first major project !
The chairs, used in the council room, were designed to be very comfortable, so you can sit in for a long time! Some of Wegner's designs will be taken over for a line of office furniture intended for individuals.
This chair has been manufactured in 1961 and is signed by the hand of the cabinetmaker.
